Waltons Back To School Virtual Event Promotion Terms and Conditions

Important Notice: By participating in the Waltons Back To School Virtual Event Promotion ("the Promotion"), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

1. Promoter

This promotional competition ("the Promotion") is organised and conducted by Waltons, a Division of Bidvest Office Proprietary Limited (Registration no: 1997/010942/07) ("Waltons"), herein referred to as "the Promoter".

2. Promotion Period

The Promotion will run on 28 August 2025 and will be open to all eligible virtual event attendees.

3. Eligibility

The Promotion is open to all South African residents aged 18 years or older who are currently employed at a school.

Participants must be full-time employees of an educational institution recognised by the Department of Basic Education.

Employees, members, directors, agents, and/or consultants of the Promoter, as well as any person who directly or indirectly controls, or is controlled by, the Promoter (including their immediate family members — spouse, life partner, parents, children, and siblings — and any advertising, promotional, or other service providers to the Promoter) are not eligible to enter the Promotion.

4. How to Enter

To qualify for entry into the Promotion, participants must:

  • register in advance using the official registration process for the Waltons Back to School virtual event;
  • successfully log in to the event platform on 28 August 2025 using their registered details;
  • remain connected to the event for its full duration; and
  • be present in the session at the time of the live announcement of the winners, as monitored and verified by the Promoter or its appointed service provider.

Failure to meet any of the above requirements, including but not limited to incomplete registration, early departure, absence during the winner announcement, or technical issues on the participant’s side (including internet connectivity or device failures), will result in disqualification from the Promotion. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any such failures.

5. Win Your Share prizes

Ten (10) participants will each win an amount of R25,000 (twenty-five thousand South African Rand) for their school.

To claim the prize, winners must provide valid proof of identity, proof of employment at a recognised educational institution, and the school’s bank account details for verification purposes.

The prize will be paid directly into the school’s bank account upon successful completion of the verification process.

The prize is non-transferable, and no substitution, exchange, or variation of the prize will be permitted.

6. Winner Selection

The winners will be randomly selected through an audited draw, which will be conducted during the virtual event.

The draw will be conducted at the Promoter’s East Rand Mall retail store.

To be eligible, participants must:

  • be employed at a recognised school at the time of the draw; and
  • attend the event online.

If a selected winner does not meet the eligibility criteria, the prize will be forfeited, and an alternate winner will be drawn in accordance with these terms and conditions.

7. General Terms

By entering the Promotion, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

he Promoter reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to amend these Terms and Conditions or cancel the Promotion without prior notice, subject to applicable law. Any changes will be communicated through the same channels used to advertise the Promotion.

The Promoter's decision regarding any matter concerning the Promotion will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Any entry that is found to be fraudulent, misleading, or otherwise in breach of these Terms and Conditions will be disqualified.

8. Data Protection

By participating in the Promotion, participants agree that the Promoter may collect and process their personal information for the purposes of administering the Promotion and contacting winners.

The Promoter will ensure that all personal data collected is handled in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and will only be shared with formal partners and third parties for the purposes of administering this Promotion.

Participants have the right to withdraw their consent for data processing at any time by contacting the Promoter however, the participant acknowledges that this will result in the participant being unable to participate in the Promotion any further.

9. Publication

The Promoter may wish to publish names and photographs of the winners on the Promoter’s social media platforms and marketing materials for the purposes of marketing the Promoter and its products, promoting the Promotion and future promotions. Winners will however be allowed to decline the publication of their name and images and to participate in the Promoter’s marketing material insofar as it relates to the Promotion.

Each participant hereby consents and irrevocably grants to the Promoters, a worldwide, royalty-free (free from any other fee or charge), perpetual and non-exclusive license, to use, produce, reproduce modify, adapt, use, publish or display (including to incorporate it into other works in any form whatsoever) any content posted and/or submitted by the participant on any social media platform in relation to the Promotion or the prize, for any purpose including the promotion of the products and services of the Promoter, without notice to compensation to the participants.

10. Indemnity

To the maximum extent permitted by law, participants indemnify and hold harmless the Promoter, its employees, directors, and agents from any claim, loss, or damage, whether direct, indirect, consequential, or otherwise, arising from their participation in the Promotion or acceptance of the prize.

The Promoter will not be held liable for any technical issues, interruptions, or errors beyond its reasonable control, including, but not limited to, connectivity problems, device malfunctions, or platform failures that may prevent a participant from successfully registering, logging in, or attending the virtual event.

11. Limitation of Liability

The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any tax implications that may arise from winning the prize. It is the responsibility of the winner to seek independent tax advice. The Promoter also accepts no responsibility for any other charges (bank or otherwise) applied upon payment of the prize.

The Promoter will not be held liable for any costs incurred by participants in relation to the Promotion, including but not limited to legal fees.

12. Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions are governed by South African law, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of South African courts.

Participants agree to resolve disputes amicably through arbitration or mediation before escalating to legal proceedings.

13. Force majeure

The Promoter will not be liable for any failure to fulfil its obligations under the Promotion if circumstances beyond its reasonable control (e.g., natural disasters, strikes, pandemics) prevent it from doing so.
