Types of Office Paper and Printer Paper
A4 & A3 Copy and Printer Paper
A4 and A3 copy and printer paper is designed for reliable everyday printing across most inkjet and laser printers. Choose A4 for standard documents like reports, letters and invoices, or A3 when you need extra space for spreadsheets, presentations and technical drawings. Trusted South African brands like Typek and Rotatrim deliver consistent performance and competitive printer paper prices.
A4 Coloured Paper
Add impact to presentations, classroom activities, filing systems and promotional materials with bright and pastel coloured office paper. It's a simple way to organise information or make important documents easier to identify.
Craft & Card Stock
For projects that need extra durability, choose craft paper and card stock. These heavier papers are ideal for certificates, invitations, report covers, signage, menus and school projects where standard printer paper isn't suitable.
POS Thermal Rolls
Keep checkout counters moving with thermal rolls designed for point-of-sale systems, receipt printers and payment terminals. Available in a range of sizes for retail, hospitality and service businesses.
Speciality Printing Paper
Create premium documents with glossy, matte and high-brightness speciality printing paper. Ideal for photographs, brochures, proposals, certificates and marketing materials where presentation matters.
Continuous Computer Paper
Continuous computer paper is designed for tractor-feed and dot-matrix printers used in warehouses, logistics, manufacturing and other high-volume business environments. It's the reliable choice for multipart forms, invoices and continuous reporting.
How to Choose the Right Printer Paper
Find the Right Paper Size
A4 printer paper is the standard choice for reports, letters and invoices, while A3 paper provides extra space for drawings, spreadsheets and presentations. Selecting the correct size helps reduce waste and ensures your documents print as intended.
Select the Right Paper Weight
For most workplaces, 80gsm office paper offers the ideal balance of print quality, durability and value. Heavier paper is better suited to proposals, brochures and premium documents that need a more polished finish.
Buy by the Ream or in Bulk
A single ream of paper is ideal for home offices and occasional printing. Businesses, schools and larger workplaces can reduce the cost per sheet by purchasing a box of five reams (2,500 sheets) or full cartons for high-volume printing.
Match Your Printer
Standard printer paper works with most inkjet and laser printers, while continuous computer paper is designed specifically for tractor-feed and dot-matrix printers. Using the right paper helps improve print quality and reduce paper jams.
Frequently Asked Questions
What paper weight is best for everyday office printing?
For most offices, 80gsm printer paper is the standard choice because it offers a good balance of durability, print quality and value. 75gsm is suitable for high-volume everyday copying where keeping costs down is a priority, while 90gsm to 100gsm paper provides a thicker, more premium finish for presentations, proposals and client-facing documents. For certificates, covers and marketing materials, choose heavier card stock designed for those applications.
Should I buy printer paper by the ream or by the box?
A single ream of paper (sometimes spelt paper rim) suits home offices, students and businesses with lighter printing needs because it costs less upfront and takes up less storage space. If you print every day, buying by the box or carton usually lowers the cost per sheet, reduces the chance of running out and means you spend less time reordering. Using the same paper brand across larger print runs can also deliver more consistent results.
Will any printer paper work with my printer?
Most laser and inkjet printers work well with standard A4 or A3 office paper. If you use a dot-matrix printer, you'll need continuous computer paper, while glossy and matte papers are designed for specific printing applications. Before choosing heavier paper, check your printer's recommended paper weight, as some desktop printers may struggle to feed thicker sheets smoothly.
How much does a ream of paper cost?
The ream of paper price depends on factors such as brand, paper weight, size and colour. At Waltons, you can compare printer paper prices online, check live stock availability and choose the option that fits your printing needs and budget.
How many sheets are in a ream or box of printer paper?
A standard ream of paper contains 500 sheets, and a typical box contains five reams (2,500 sheets). While these pack sizes are standard for most office paper, speciality printing paper, coloured paper and craft paper are often packaged in smaller quantities.
